Bowden Flicks: The Sapphires

Friday, 10 February 2017
When the sun sets, around 8.30pm
Bowden Park, corner of Third and Gibson Street, Bowden

As the sun sets over beautiful Bowden, join the Bowden community for a series of FREE balmy movie nights in the Bowden Park.

During February and March, our free outdoor cinema sessions will show three family-friendly movies — The Sapphires, Eddie the Eagle and Moonrise Kingdom. The events will be held in Bowden Park on Friday nights.

The movie will begin as the sun goes down, but get in early to find your spot. Make sure you invite your friends too. For more information, visit our Facebook event page.

The all important food and drink

Plant 4 Bowden’s fantastic in-house eateries will be open for dinner and drinks from 5pm onwards with the bar operating until late.

We’ll also have the team from Slush Happy on board to bring you slushies, jam donuts and plenty of popcorn! But of course you can bring a picnic along too.

About the movie

First up is The Sapphires (rated PG), a fantastic Australian musical comedy-drama film, based on the 2004 stage play of the same name and based on a true story.

The Sapphires centres around four indigenous women played by Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, Shari Sebbens and Miranda Tapsell, who are discovered by a talent scout (Chris O’Dowd), and form a music group named The Sapphires, travelling to Vietnam in 1968 to sing for troops during the war.
