When Jenny Lennon stumbled upon Bowden during an Aussie backpacking adventure, she just knew she had found her place in the world.
Growing up in London, the 28-year-old had endless options for arts, culture, music and international food both at her doorstep, and just a short flight away in Europe.
Yet it was this “cool and quirky” Adelaide suburb that she and partner Jade decided to call home. A visit to Adelaide in 2016 was only ever supposed to be a fleeting side trip to their bigger backpacking ambitions.
“We didn’t know we were going to move here – we just fell in love with it,” Jenny, a creative director at an Adelaide advertising agency, recalls. “We did farm work in South Australia for a bit which was quite cool and ended up making vegan cakes for a business that supplies them to Plant 4 [at Bowden]. We went to see what Plant 4 was about and we just loved Bowden so much we’ve decided to buy.
“The Friday night markets are amazing, the food is awesome and there are lots of vegan options,” she says. “It’s so chilled out and quirky. I feel like it’s a very progressive place to live.”
The couple has bought in Guild Terraces, one of Bowden’s latest home and land package releases. Fifteen townhouses were released recently in stage one, with construction on the two and three storey, 5-star Green Star homes to begin in July.
The inclusion of a landscaped park in the planning for Guild Terraces has proven popular, says Renewal SA Project Director for Bowden, Shane Wingard.

Jenny, as a current renter, say the past year has brought positive changes to Bowden.
There are new apartment buildings and new neighbours to meet.
“You can tell just by the number of people going to the markets on Friday night how much busier Bowden is getting,” she says. “I like it because people add atmosphere and to the sense of community.
“It’s literally 10 minutes to go for a quick drink at The Gov [pub] to see a live band, across the road to the Entertainment Centre to see a massive band or $10 in an Uber to town.
“I feel like if a trend is going to be set, it’s going to happen in Bowden.”
