A new West Side Story for Emma and Jonathan

Emma and Jonathan Clarke have sold their 12-acre property in the Adelaide Hills and are moving to Bowden. The decision was an easy one: after breakfasting at Plant 4 for several months, they realised that Bowden offered them everything they were looking for in their future lifestyle together, and that now was the time to buy into this burgeoning city-fringe address.

“Our six children are now grown and we no longer have the need for such a large home on such a large block,” says Emma, a retired pre-school teacher.

“We were looking for a simpler, lower-maintenance lifestyle and a home that required much less cleaning and commitment.

“We also wanted to spend the next chapter of our lives getting out and about, socialising, going cycling, travelling and having new experiences,” Emma says.

Bowden provided the ideal landscape for this energetic, adventurous couple.

“Not only are there great places to eat and meet friends at Bowden, but the parklands are only a stone’s throw away for our dog to run around in, and we can ride our new e-bikes on the Outer Harbor Greenway or catch the free tram into the city to shop or catch a show,” Emma says.

The couple are moving into the Guild Terrace development in June after purchasing a three-storey ‘Iris’ off the plan. They are bringing their youngest daughter Mary with them to support her through her final year of school, as well as their black Labrador Sheba and their British short hair cat, Audrey.

“To be honest, the Guild Terraces at Bowden were the only development we looked at when we decided to make the move from Crafers West,” says Emma.

“We were attracted to the Iris because it afforded us more space than an apartment and it also came with three balconies to look out from, giving us a feeling of space.

“Our courtyard opens up onto the new shared reserve, so we will also have nature around us.

“Our builder, Centina, has been amazing all the way through the construction of our new home, communicating with us regularly and answering any questions we have had, however big or small,” Emma says.

Convenience was also a big drawcard for the couple, as student Mary is able to catch the train to school from the new Bowden train station and Jonathan, who works at Flinders Medical Centre, will also soon be able to catch the train to work once the Flinders Link Project is completed later this year.

“Bowden is just the most amazing fresh start for us – we are pretty much looking forward to everything about our new neighbourhood,” says Emma.

Jonathan agrees.

“At Bowden we will have a social life right at our front doorstep, as well as enviable proximity to the Entertainment Centre, live music at The Gov, fresh markets at Plant 4 and all the Queen Street eateries at Croydon.

“Plus we can just walk to the shops whenever we want to do our shopping instead of having to take the car and planning ahead.

“Importantly for us we can also just lock up and leave when we want to go travelling, making our new home the perfect base of operation,” Jonathan says.

Both Emma and Jonathan have already met several of their new neighbours through regular events hosted by Renewal SA and Centina for those moving into the Guild Terraces. With new friends already made, life in the inner-west is already looking pretty special.

The couple are poised to grab this new life with both hands.

“This is an exciting time for us, as we contemplate having more time for each other and for the activities we love, in a place where we have choice and can live as large or small as we feel like, surrounded by like-minded people in a community that’s actually designed for living,” says Emma.
