Beers in Bowden, for Bowden

Hopefully, by now you’ve taken a sneaky stroll past the new Plant 3 building. If you’ve smooshed your face up to the glass you may have seen that Bowden Brewing is indeed open!

As many craft beer companies in SA are being purchased by larger parent businesses, what we’re seeing something here in Bowden is something that is uniquely… well, Bowden.

Their knowledge of craft beers blossomed with the creation of NOLA, the New Orleans themed craft beer and whiskey bar in the backstreets of Adelaide’s East End. The incredible success the venue has seen led them to be able to launch what was the ultimate goal from the start, an independent craft brewery and bar.

Ollie Brown and Josh Talbot alongside brewers Alex Marschall and Jake Phoenix were excited to open a venue that is cool, comfortable and down to earth. Though the fit out by Sans-Arc is pretty chic, the vibe is approachable and relatable.

Unlike MANY other businesses, Bowden Brewing is a place where they welcome feedback. They want to know from the community what they love about the hyperlocal brews and what they’d tweak.

Here it’s about as close to the process as you can get, with the core range being brewed in giant vats just metres away AND coming straight from the keg to the tap… then to the glass and your lips.

At peak production they have the capacity to make around 90,000 litres but the ‘more-more-more’ model isn’t the focus.

There’s 14 taps in total with the consistent core range being Bowden Draught, Head in the Clouds Session Ale, Dive In West Coast IPA. These are accompanied by some experimental numbers (Jaffa Choc Orange Stout) and Collab beers (Monday’s Coffee We Love Monday’s Coffee Stout) and a seasonal fruit kombucha and hard seltzer. See, something for everyone!

You’re welcome to have a beer in-house or takeaway in growlers, with the potential of a small canning line to come, all going to plan.

If you’re looking to pad the stomach there’s also the in house eatery, Masa. Chef Harry Bourne from Big Easy is again, hyper-focused on local produce for this Mexican/Central America menu. Tacos and beer. What more could you want?

Everything is made by hand in house. Down to the spice mixes and tortillas and the produce is sourced as local as physically possible.

If you’re a beer lover this is your changer to make your mark on the face of Bowden beers. Let the boys know what you think. They’re here to make you happy. Great job so far, we say!
